Aussie Eybers
Aussie Eybers was born in Beaufort West, the "capital" of the Karoo, a semi desert region
in South Africa.
Aussie now applies his art full time in his well-equipped studio “The International School of Sand Art”, previously from Richards Bay, South Africa, now located in Groot Brakrivier, Garden Route, South Africa. (17 Margaret Street West, HERSHAM).
His art started at a young age with sketching in pencil, mostly portraits and cartoon strips. From pencil he progressed to oils. He experimented with the texture of oil paint to add more body and to take out the gloss. By mixing icing sugar with the paint he obtained the required result, glitter. Moving to sand was the logic progression as sand paintings have both the texture and the glitter that give an unique finish to his work.
Aussie only uses natural color sand and he collects different colors of sand from around the world. He is a member of Sand Collectors International. For the brighter colors, he grinds up semi precious stones, like was the use by the Navajo.
He regularly attends workshops with top artists and, lectures to selected audiences. He exhibits internationally. Other than painting he also does sculptures in marble and designs exclusive moulds for the pottery industry.
